My absolute favorite part about Hamburg, Germany was that it was sunny! I felt as though I had not seen the sun all week, and I so enjoyed seeing the sunrise over the Elbe River too.
I was told that when in Hamburg I had to order a backfischbrotchen, which is essentially the German word for a fried fish sandwich. I did a little research on where to go, and decided upon Daniel Wischer. This was such a cute and heartwarming restaurant! As soon as I walked inside, the ambience just seemed cozy and homey. Cute wooden tables and chairs, vases of flowers on each table, no WiFi, and cash only. And I was by FAR the youngest person eating there. Everyone else was at least 40 - 50 years older than me. I felt like I was eating in a small town diner on a Sunday afternoon. So many happy couples eating together. And the fish sandwich was delicious. (Of course I had to get the fries to go with it!)
Another favorite of mine from Hamburg was visiting the Hachez Chocoversum, a chocolate museum. I took a tour in which we learned about how chocolate is made, ate many different chocolate samples, and made our own chocolate bar. I chose to put gummy bears and colorful candies on mine. So yummy!
Hamburg was pretty, I enjoyed different aspects of it, and it had some great attractions and picturesque views, but I feel like it gave off somewhat of a "generic" big city feel with museums and shopping. (Obviously I'm not complaining about the shopping part...) Although beautiful, nothing stood out to be about Hamburg in comparison with other large cities I have been to. I wouldn't put it at the top of my list to visit again, but it does have a lot to offer and I am glad I could explore Hamburg for the day.
Much love,
